Why sensory play?

Sensory play has so many benefits as it engages multiple senses and helps with brain development, emotional regulation and imaginative, open-ended play. It also aids with language development and strengthening fine motor skills. Whilst the main idea of sensory set ups is for imaginative play, there are various other benefits for children’s development.

Creativity: Sensory play encourages creativity and imagination as little ones explore different materials, textures, colours, food, animals and small world set ups.

Strengthening fine motor skills: Activities like sorting, pinching, pouring, moulding and squishing help little ones develop their fine motor skills along with their hand-eye coordination. These skills are great for preparing your bears for starting school and tasks like writing, tying their shoelaces, feeding themselves, dressing themselves and more.

Brain development: Sensory play engages multiple senses by stimulating neural connections in the brain. This helps with cognitive development including problem-solving skills and enhancing memory.

Language development: Sensory play encourages toddlers to describe what they're experiencing, expanding their vocabulary and language skills.

Emotional regulation: We all know our little ones can have big emotions and sensory play can be calming and soothing for them. It provides an outlet for them to explore and express their feelings through play and talking about what they’re doing.

Social skills: Sensory play often involves interaction with other children or caregivers, promoting social skills like sharing and taking turns.
